MORGANTOWN, WV (April 13) - The University of Connecticut dropped the final game of the three game series to West Virginia 10-5, on Sunday, afternoon at Hawley Field. The loss drops the Huskies record to 16-14 overall and 6-6 in the conference, while the win improves the Mountaineers record to 22-11 on the season and 6-2 in the BIG EAST.

West Virginia scored in the top of the first on a solo home run by Jarod Rine. The Mountaineers added to their lead scoring two in the second and the fourth to go on top 5-0. The Huskies got on the board in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Marc Peluso (Pawcatuck, CT) to score Mike Mocerino (Northboro, MA).

West Virginia would increase their lead with two runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth on RBI singles by Rine, Eric Grimm and Stan Poluszny, along with a two run home run by Jake Surfass. UConn would make one late rally in the top of the ninth. The Huskies scored four runs on an RBI double by Mike McDonough (Abington, MA) and RBI singles by Dan Trubia (Tolland, CT) and Russ D’Argento (Marlboro, MA) for the 10-5 final.

The Mountaineers received an outstanding pitching performance from Jason DiAngelo as he pitched 8.2 innings while allowing five runs, two earned on eight hits in getting his fifth win. Peter Soteropoulous (Peabody, MA) picks up the loss for the Huskies his second on the season.

The Huskies continue their road trip on Tuesday, April 15 at UMass, with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
