FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Coming off its second series victory over a ranked opponent this season, the UConn baseball team (22-13) hits the road this week for contests at Fairfield (7-20) on Tuesday, April 14 and at Bryant (10-15) on Wednesday, April 15. Game times are set for 3:30 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively. UConn is 57-14-1 all-time against Fairfield and 4-3 vs. Bryant.

UConn Tops Fairfield in Mid-Week Action, 12-5
The University of Connecticut baseball team overcame an early 5-1 deficit and five errors to earn a 12-5 victory over Fairfield University at J.O. Christian Field, Tuesday afternoon. The Huskies moved to 10 games over .500 for the first time since 2011 as they improved to 23-13. The Stags dropped to 10-21 with the loss.

Late Runs Lift Bryant Over UConn, 5-3
The UConn baseball team surrendered a run in the eighth inning and two more in the ninth to drop a 5-3 decision to Bryant on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the 2014 Dodd Stadium College Baseball Classic. The loss drops the Huskies to 13-16 on the season, while the Bulldogs improve to 18-9 after going 3-1 in the tournament.

UConn most recently took two out of three in a conference series at UCF, with the Knights ranked as high as No. 12 in the national polls during the three-game set. The Huskies won a tight 6-4 contest on Friday before a 15-1 rout on Saturday, falling in the series finale by a score of 5-1 on Sunday. Connecticut is looking to continue its strong play in the midweek this year, currently holding a 6-2 record in those contests with a 5-1 mark against New England neighbors.

The Huskies are second in The American Athletic Conference with a .796 team OPS and lead the league with a 2.73 ERA (12th nationally). Vinny Siena leads UConn with a .366 average, currently coming in at 10th in the country with 56 hits on the year. Siena is tops on the Huskies with 28 RBIs, adding eight doubles and four home runs. Max McDowell (North Huntingdon, Pa.) is batting .311 leads Connecticut with six home runs and has added 26 RBIs, several coming via a nation-leading seven sacrifice flies. Jack Sundberg (Mansfield, Conn.) paces UConn from the leadoff spot with a team-best .435 on-base percentage and is eighth in the NCAA with 22 stolen bases.

On the mound, the UConn pitching staff is sixth in the country with 7.24 hits allowed per nine innings and 18th in the NCAA with 8.9 strikeouts per nine. Andrew Zapata (Staten Island, N.Y.) will make a midweek start coming off one of the best performances of his career, tossing seven one-run innings against Northeastern on April 7.

Fairfield hosts the Huskies with a 7-20 record on the year, most recently falling victim to a sweep in an MAAC series at Rider. Sebastian Salvo is the top bat for the Stags with a team-leading .298 average, two home runs and 20 RBIs on the year, while Brendan Tracy is second on the squad with 15 RBIs and Alex Witkus is 10-for-12 swiping bases. Kyle Dube is set to start on Tuesday with a 3-1 record and a 3.68 ERA, holding opponents to a .213 batting average against.

Bryant welcomes UConn to Rhode Island with a 10-15 record, coming off a split of a four-game NEC series with Central Connecticut. Matt Albanese is tops on the Bulldogs with a .354 average and has added five home runs and 19 RBIs, while Cole Fabio is batting .341 on the year. Brandon Bingel paces Bryant with six home runs, helping the Bulldogs out-homer opponents 25-12 on the year. The Bulldogs hold a team ERA of 4.91 ERA and have struck out 166 batters in 205.1 innings collectively.

Following the midweek contests, UConn hosts American Athletic Conference newcomer East Carolina at J.O. Christian Field for three games from April 17-19.
