STORRS, Conn. –
Riding a three-game win streak, the UConn baseball team continues American Athletic Conference play when it hosts No. 30 Houston at J.O. Christian Field in a three-game series on April 15-17. The Huskies and Cougars will begin the weekend with a 3 p.m. tilt on Friday before a 1 p.m. first pitch on Saturday and a 12 p.m. series finale on Sunday. All three contests will be broadcasted on WHUS.org, 91.7 FM.

UConn (16-15, 2-3 The American) is coming off a 6-3 win over Bryant on Wednesday, scoring the final six runs of the contest to improve to 6-3 all-time against the Bulldogs. Sophomore RHP Joe Rivera (1-0) secured his first win in a Connecticut uniform with 3.1 scoreless innings of relief, while senior OF Joe DeRoche-Duffin (Santa Ana, Calif.) collected his team-leading sixth home run of the season in the win.

Connecticut owns a 1-6 all-time mark against Houston since the two programs joined The American prior to the 2014 season. The Cougars swept the Huskies in a three-game set in Houston in the last meeting on May 14-16, 2015.

With a hit against Bryant on Wednesday, senior 1B Bobby Melley (Barnstable, Mass.) moved into a tie with Georgia Tech’s Matt Gonzalez for tops on the NCAA Division I active hit leader list (252). In addition to his ranking in hits, Melley currently ranks in the top-10 among all active players in career doubles (6th - 52) and RBIs (8th - 144).

Through eight weekends of play, UConn ranks 12th in the country with a 9.4 K/9 mark, 59th with 1.97 doubles/gm, 67th with a 3.75 ERA, and 89th with 6.2 runs per game and 74th with 0.76 homers/gm.

The Huskies have won 12 of 15 games when they have out-hit opponents in 2016, compared to a 1-10 record when recording fewer hits than their foe.

The Cougars, who checked in at No. 30 in the most recent NCBWA poll, enter the weekend with a 20-6 overall record and a three-game win streak. The team is 4-4 on the road during the 2016 campaign.
