STORRS, Conn. - Riding its first six-game win streak since 2014, the UConn baseball team hits the road for a pair of midweek contests at UMass and UMass-Lowell on April 19-20. The Huskies and Minutemen will meet on Tuesday, April 19 at 3 p.m. at Earl Lorden Field before Connecticut travels to challenge the River Hawks on Wednesday, April 20 at LeLacheur Park at 7 p.m. Both contests will be broadcasted on WHUS.org, 91.7 FM.
UConn (19-15, 5-3 The American) rattled off a perfect 5-0 homestand last weekend, including a sweep of No. 30 Houston on April 15-17 at J.O. Christian Field. On Monday, senior Joe DeRoche-Duffin (Santa Ana, Calif.) was named The American's Player of the Week, while junior lefty Anthony Kay (Stony Brook, N.Y.) was placed on the league's weekly honor roll.
Connecticut owns an 88-71-3 all-time record against the Minutemen in a series dating back to 1900. The Huskies won the last meeting, 13-2, on April 21, 2015 behind a 4-for-4 offensive showing from 1B Bobby Melley (Barnstable, Mass.). The program routed UMass-Lowell, 17-2, last season, pounding out 17 hits in the victory.
The Minutemen enter Tuesday's tilt with a 7-17 overall record, including a 1-5 mark on their home diamond. The River Hawks sport a 15-16 overall record and are 5-5 at home during the 2016 campaign.
Connecticut is in search of its first seven-game win streak since it won seven in-a-row on Feb. 23 - March 9, 2013. During its current six-game winning streak, UConn has outscored its opponents 28-to-11 and has held opponents to two or fewer runs in five of six contests.
