PROVIDENCE, R.I. - George Springer has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week as announced Monday by the conference office.
Springer led the Huskies to a 5-0 record last week, including a 4-0 run at home and a 3-0 sweep of Georgetown in BIG EAST Conference action.
Springer recorded his 40th career home run and his team-leading sixth of the season against the Hoyas in UConn's 14-2 victory on Friday afternoon. After a 2-for-4 performance in Monday's 9-0 win over Quinnipiac, he is currently on a 19-game hit streak.
On the week, the junior batted .476 in five games with 10 hits, nine runs scored and 14 RBI. Against Georgetown, Springer was 6-for-13 with four RBI, a home run and a double.
Against Fairfield on Tuesday, April 19, Springer had two hits and six RBI, while hitting a double and home run to lead the Huskies.
During the week, Springer had four multiple-hit games and three multiple-RBI games. He was also 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts. The junior added an on-base percentage of .478 and a slugging percentage of .952, a team-best on the week.
Springer and the Huskies return to action on Tuesday afternoon at Bryant in a 3:30 p.m. match-up.
