STORRS, Conn. -- UConn hosts first place No. 23 USF this weekend in Storrs with a doubleheader scheduled for Friday, May 12 beginning at 11 a.m. and the series finale set for Saturday, May 13 at 1 p.m. at J.O Christian Field.

The Huskies currently are tied for fourth place in The American with Tulane at 10-8 in league play. UConn sits two games back of the Bulls (12-6) entering this weekend's series and are a game back of second place UCF and Houston (11-7).

UConn/USF History...UConn is 24-20 all-time against the Bulls, recording a 4-0 record against USF in 2016. The Huskies swept the final regular season series of the year in Tampa last season, before knocking off the Bulls in a winner's bracket matchup in the conference tournament, 9-1.

Anthony Kay ('16) made history in Tampa by jumping Matt Barnes ('11) for a program-record 249 career strikeouts. Willy Yahn had a big series for the Huskies driving in seven runs and went 6-18 (.333) at the plate.

Tim Cate notched two victories against the Bulls in the span of a week with a 6.2 inning performance on May 20 and followed in up in Clearwater, Fla. with a 7.1 inning effort to punch a ticket to The American semifinals.

Strikeouts On Deck... USF (10.5) and UConn (10.3) are the top two programs nationally in strikeouts per nine innings this season. The Bulls are the only team to eclipse 500 strikeouts on the season (505) in 48 games played. The Huskies have accumulated 462 strikeouts in 46 games. Shane McClanahan (7th, 12.73), Tim Cate (9th, 12.59) and Wills Montgomerie (11th, 12.41) rank in the top 15 in strikeouts per nine innings this season.

200 Hit Club... Junior Willy Yahn is six hits away from 200 for his UConn career. Yahn would be the 19th Husky to accomplish the feat. Last season, Bobby Melley, Bryan Daniello and Jack Sundberg all grabbed their 200th career knock.

Montgomerie Among Husky Greats... Junior Wills Montgomerie has registered 207 career strikeouts, placing the right-hander ninth in program history in punch-outs. Already this season Montgomerie has passed Charley Nagy ('88), Tom Germano ('77), Jesse Carlson ('02), Bob Wedin ('58) and Jim Jachym ('72)

USF Scouting Report... The Bulls are arguably the most balanced team in The American. USF ranks first in the conference in batting average (.304), doubles (95) and walks (231). The Bulls are second in The American with a 2.88 ERA but lead the country in strikeouts (505) and own a conference-best 38 wins and 17 ranking in the latest RPI.
