Six-Run First Leads UConn To 11-5 Win Over Rhode Island
The UConn baseball team scored six times in the first inning and never looked back to defeat Rhode Island by a score of 11-5 on Tuesday afternoon at Bill Beck Field. The Huskies improve to 33-20 on the year with the win, while the Rams drop to 22-21-1.

UConn (29-22, 11-9 The American) has picked up five-straight wins since May 10, outscoring its foes, 36-19, over the stretch. As a team, Connecticut hit .293 over the five-day stretch, paced by a .421 batting average from senior 1B Bobby Melley (Barnstable, Mass.). Fellow senior slugger Joe DeRoche-Duffin (Santa Ana, Calif.) hit four home runs and drove in seven RBIs, while junior closer Patrick Ruotolo (Peabody, Mass.) picked up a pair of saves with 4.1 scoreless innings of relief.

The Huskies own a 113-65-4 all-time record against the Rams in a series dating back to 1896. Connecticut has won two of the last three match-ups, including an 11-5 victory in the last meeting on May 12, 2015.

Connecticut is in search of its second-straight 30 win season – Since Jim Penders took over the helm of the program in 2004, the Huskies have reached the 30-win plateau in nine of 12 seasons.

The Rams enter the midweek contest with a 24-23 overall record and a 15-6 mark in Atlantic-10 action. Rhode Island is tied with VCU for the top mark in the league but has dropped 16 of its 28 road contests in 2016.
