DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its 2017 Division I Baseball Awards and All-ECAC selections Wednesday morning, recognizing Mason Feole as Rookie Pitcher of the Year and Tim Cate as an All-ECAC Second Team member.
Feole earns his second Rookie Pitcher of the Year award after winning American Athletic Conference Rookie Pitcher of the Year, becoming the second-consecutive UConn pitcher to take home the honor (Tim Cate, 2016). Feole was recognized as First Team All-AAC performer.
The left-hander pitched 82.2 innings, recording a 3.38 ERA and led the Huskies with seven wins on the year. Feole ranked top 10 in the conference in all three of those categories among starting pitchers. He struck out 75 batters and allowed opponents to hit just .254 against him in 15 appearances and 14 starts.
Cate earns a spot on the second team after taking American Athletic Conference First Team honors last week. Cate finished the season with 102 strikeouts, becoming the first UConn pitcher in program history to strike out 100 batters or more in multiple seasons. In his sophomore season, he collected his 200th career strikeout, the 11th pitcher to accomplish the feat.
Cate completed his second year in Storrs with a 4-3 record and a 3.33 ERA, tops amongst the UConn starting rotation. He logged 12 starts, accumulating 75.2 innings and led the team with a 3.29 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
