Huskies Headed to Summer Ball, Nine in Cape League

STORRS, Conn. – The Huskies announced summer ball assignments earlier this week with 21 current and incoming players playing in collegiate summer leagues.

Nine Huskies will represent the program in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League this summer. Tim Cate, Zac Susi, Ronnie Rossomando and P.J. Poulin will play for the Bourne Braves under a pair of Huskies on the coaching staff, manager Harvey Shapiro (’70) and pitching coach Jordan Tabakman (’15).

Mason Feole and John Toppa will suit up for the Wareham Gatemen this summer. George Springer (’09, ’10), Matt Barnes (’09, ’10) and L.J. Mazzilli (’10) are a few former Huskies that played for Wareham.

CJ Dandeneau and Sam Nepiarsky are set to play at Hyannis and Anthony Prato slotted to play in Brewster. The nine UConn players in the Cape are the most for the program since 2010 when the Huskies had 10 players:



In the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL), the Huskies have three players on the 2016 NECBL Champion Mystic Schooners. Trevor Holmes, Dan Rajkowski and Chris Winkel join the Schooners this summer playing for former Husky and Schooner’s pitching coach Dennis Long (’80).

John Russell is slated to play for the Ocean State Waves in the NECBL.

Five Huskies are participating in the Futures Collegiate League this summer. Jacob Wallace (Bristol), Conor Moriarty (Pittsfield), Troy Stefanski (Martha’s Vineyard) and incoming freshmen Christian Fedko and Joe Simeone (Wachusett).

Kenny Bergmann suits up in the Valley League with the Front Royal Cardinals and Anthony Nucerino is playing for the Elmira Pioneers in the Perfect Game League.

Incoming Junior College transfer Jeffrey Kersten (Pinole, Calif.), a right-handed pitcher out of Sierra College in Rocklin, Calif, is playing with the Humboldt Crabs in the Far West Baseball League.
