LYNCHBURG, Va.–Shortstop Anthony Prato earned Freshman All-American accolades from the National Collegiate Baseball Writer’s Association (NCBWA), as announced by the organization on Monday.
Prato led the Huskies with 69 hits in his first campaign with the Huskies. The Staten Island, N.Y. native was named to the American Conference All-Tournament team after recording 10 hits (.611 Avg), scoring 6 runs, 7 RBIs and recorded 3 extra-base hits.
He scored a team-leading 50 runs, .376 on-base percentage and 15 stolen bases. He also hit .304 at the plate with 10 doubles, three triples and drove in 33. The shortstop received Second Team All-Conference honors and named a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American.
Prato ranked third on the team with 16 multi-hit efforts and second in multi-RBI games (8) for the Huskies in 2017. He registered the longest hit streak (16) and reach-base streak (17) on the team.
