Springer Family to be Honored at 2016 Little League World Series

George Springer's parents will be honored at the Little League World Series in August

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – George and Laura Springer, the parents of former UConn baseball standout George Springer (’11), will be recognized as the 2016 George and Barbara Bush Little League Parents of the Year at the 2016 Little League Baseball World Series in August.

Springer Jr., who played in the 1976 Little League World Series representing Forestville, Conn., and his wife volunteer for the Walicki Little League program in New Britain, Conn. Springer Jr. served as an assistant district administrator and coordinated the first baseball and softball tournament for 9-10 year-olds in Connecticut. From 2000-2003, Springer served on the Little League International Advisory Board.

While at UConn from 2009-11, Springer hit .346 with 46 home runs, 196 RBIs and 76 steals in 186 games. He was a 2009 Baseball America Freshman All-America First Team member, and became the first Husky to take home BIG EAST Rookie of the Year honors. In 2011, Springer was the league's Player of the Year, garnering First Team All-America nods from Perfect Game USA, Lousiville Slugger and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Houston selected Springer with the 11th pick in the first round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, the highest draft pick in the history of Connecticut baseball.



In 67 games with the Astros, Springer is hitting .266 with 15 home runs and 44 RBIs to go along with four steals.
