HARTFORD, Conn. – On Wednesday night, Tim Cate and the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team opened its five-game series against Japan at Dunkin’ Donuts Park. It is the final series of the summer for USA Baseball.
The UConn left-hander, Cate, is pitching for the second-straight summer with Team USA and is the first UConn player in program history to don the red, white and blue for multiple seasons. Cate is the 10th UConn player to play for the United States and the Huskies have had at least one representative five of the last eight summers.
Cate has appeared in four games this summer, logged eight innings, allowed three hits, one earned run and struck out 11.
USA Baseball concludes its summer season on July 17.
