STORRS, Conn. -- Former UConn outfielder George Springer, currently a member of the Houston Astros organization, is one of five finalists for the USA Today Minor League Player of the Year. Springer has posted a MiLB-leading 36 home runs across AA and AAA this year.

Voting ends this week, and the results will be announced shortly thereafter. At the current time, Springer is second in voting behind Diamondbacks prospect Archie Bradley.

While at UConn, Springer patrolled the outfield for three seasons, batting .346 and slugging 46 home runs. He also drove in 196 runs, scored 220 runs and stole 76 bases. Following his junior season, the Astros made him the 11th overall pick in the 2011 MLB First Year Player Draft.
