STORRS, Conn. - With student-athletes back on campus, UConn baseball head coach Jim Penders has laid out the 2014 Fall Baseball schedule. The fall ball slate kicks off on Sept. 12 with the annual Scout Day, and includes the 2014 Alumni Game before culminating with an exhibition contest against Team Ontario 18U on Oct. 4.
The fall scout day is an annual tradition that sees the Huskies welcome dozens of major league talent evaluators to J.O. Christian Field. UConn has had 81 players selected in the MLB draft in the history of the program, including 35 since Penders took the helm in 2004. Most recently, 2014 tri-captain Tom Verdi (Warwick, R.I.) was selected in the 33rd round of the 2014 Draft by the Seattle Mariners. Three of Penders' former charges; Nick Ahmed ('11), Mike Olt ('10) and George Springer ('11), played in the majors this season, while several others are currently at the highest levels of minor league ball.
On Sept. 28, UConn will hold its annual Barbecue and Alumni Game, where the 2014 team awards will be revealed. For more information and to register for the event, click HERE.
Finally, the Huskies will conclude the fall slate with an exhibition contest against the Team Ontario 18U club team on Oct. 4 at noon. The exhibition contest and scout day are both open to the public and media.
