Baseball Announces Fall Schedule

Jim Penders and the Huskies won 38 games during the 2016 season
Sept. 5, 2016

STORRS, Conn. - After claiming the 2016 American Athletic Conference tournament crown and reaching the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in the last seven years, the UConn baseball team is set to begin its fall schedule on Friday, Sept. 9 with its annual Scout Day, as announced by head coach Jim Penders on Monday.

The fall scout day is an annual tradition that sees the Huskies welcome dozens of major league talent evaluators to J.O. Christian Field. UConn has had 88 players selected in the MLB draft in the history of the program, including 42 since Penders took the helm in 2004. In 2016, Husky ace Anthony Kay was selected as the 31st overall pick by the New York Mets before Jack Sundberg, Patrick Ruotolo, and Bobby Melley were taken on day three.

Additionally, four former Huskies, Matt Barnes ('11), Nick Ahmed ('11), George Springer ('11) and Scott Oberg ('12) hold spots on current MLB rosters.

16 days later, the squad will hold its annual Barbecue and Alumni Game on Sept. 25, where the 2016 team awards will be revealed. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. Both the scout day and alumni game are open to the public and media and free-of-charge.

Earlier this month, Penders announced that the team would hold fall walk-on tryouts on Thursday, Sept. 15. Interested students can find more information by CLICKING HERE.
