LJ Mazzilli (Greenwich, Conn.), was recently named the Greenwich Sports Person of the Year by the Fairfield County Sports Commission. Mazzilli earns the award after leading the Huskies to their first-ever Super Regional appearance and the program's first-ever BIG EAST regular season title last year.
During 2011, Mazzilli was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team, NEIBA Second Team and was selected as a USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Alternate. The Greenwich, Conn. native posted a .338 batting average on 93 hits during his sophomore season, including 23 doubles and 43 runs batted in.
In each of the 15 communities that the Fairfield County Sports Commission serves, a committee headed by a local town representative selected a Sports Person of the Year. Each winner was deemed to have the most positive impact in their sports community from August 2010 through August 2011.
