UConn Head Coach Kevin Ollie
It was a great game. We came out and established ourselves early. Amida (Brimah) had two blocks and five points in the first two minutes and a couple of great passes. And we just kept it rolling. We packed the paint in. Everybody who stepped on the court got a basket. We had 24 assists on 28 made field goals. That's amazing. And we out-rebounded them again.
I thought our defense has been great the last four games. I think we've been holding guys to a combined 33 percent. We've just got to keep this up....I want to keep this momentum going. I want to make sure we play defense. I just tell the guys to bring their locks. That's kind of our motto right now. We want to be on lockdown defense. Hopefully guys are buying in. I've seen how it has transferred in practice over to the games. They're following the game plan and details, and that's what I love to see.
On freshman guard Terrence Samuel
I enjoyed Terrence out there running the show.
On freshman forward Kentan Facey
Coach Miller has been doing a great job with our big guys, getting them where they're doing the same footwork as our guards. And Facey came right in that four-hole and made his first shot. I just thought he gave us a lot of energy.
On the bench
We didn't lose any rhythm with our best two players on the bench with two fouls....I keep telling these guys "Be patient. Work while you wait." And that's what we're trying to do. Just keep working while you wait and you're going to get your opportunity. And they got their opportunity and they made the most out of it. So I'm very proud of the bench. And it just shows how deep of a team we are.
Junior forward DeAndre Daniels
Our focus from the start was just to be aggressive. Our defensive plan was to pack it in the paint and let them shoot the three and that's what we did.
It was great to see everyone get in the game and contribute. It was a great team effort.
On UConn's defensive effort
Everybody has been talking and communicating. Defense is all five and that's what we've been doing. We've been talking and rotating. That's what we've been focusing on in our practices.
Coach Ollie said you needed to bring your "locks"?
He did tell us that we needed to bring our locks because they were going to pound it in the paint. And if we stopped them in the paint and rebounded, he said we'd win.
Freshman forward Kenton Facey
It's definitely a game that helped me gain my confidence back so that was good.
On the balanced scoring tonight
Everyone tried to move the ball. That's something Coach drills every day in practice. So we pass up a lot of shots to get other teammates great shots. I think that's what accounted for everyone doing their part in this win.
Does this enhance your chances of getting playing time down the stretch?
A performance like this definitely proves to coach Ollie that he has more depth because we have guys that can come in and produce for us.
Guard Lasan Kromah
There was a lot of energy out there. Guys were having fun just playing basketball. It was really good to have guys come in and contribute in all types of ways.
What did Coach Ollie say at halftime?
Don't take your foot off the gas pedal. Just make sure you go back out there with the same intensity as the first half.
