Kevin Ollie, UConn Head Coach
On UConn's performance tonight.
"Just a great second half by our guys. I'm so proud of this group; they're resilient and they keep fighting. Combined between the men and the women we've won 103 straight. Just a terrific half... that's UConn basketball. We're going to get back to work tomorrow and then we have to go down for a must-win in Temple."
On getting hot at the right time.
"We're just going to take it one day at a time. We're not trying to think ahead, we're just trying to get better every day and be the best versions of ourselves. When it comes to the tournament we're going to get the best seed we can. In this building I think we can beat anyone."
Tubby Smith, Memphis Head Coach
"I thought UConn made plays down the stretch and we didn't. We had some opportunities and we had some defensive breakdowns in the second half that cost us the game. They made shots and didn't quit. It was just a tough loss."
On what went wrong
"Just missing shots, they just didn't go in. One of my biggest problems is giving up 54 percent and 56 percent from threes and twos. The defensive breakdown at the end of the game when we gave up a dunk in a one point game was a communication breakdown."
On the Second Half
"I just think having that confidence from coach really helped me a lot to be more aggressive."
On fighting through being sick
"I was dealing with a fever the whole week and wasn't able to practice much, but our trainer James did a good job so I was able to play today"
When did UConn feel it had a shot at winning
"I think at half time. Usually coach comes in there and is yelling at us, but today he came in there with a lot of confidence and told us 'we're going to win this game'.
On the final five minutes
"We just realized how desperate we have to be to win games like this and need everyone we can get for us to do what we have to and grind everything out."
Confidence built up in last few weeks
"We have been building momentum for us to move forward. At this point in the season we know what we have to do to be relevant in the postseason."
Confidence in defense
"I feel we can defend any team in the country. That's the mindset we have. We don't play one on one defense, it's five on five and we make sure that we have each other’s backs."
On what Kevin Ollie said at half time
"He said the game was far from over and we had 20 minutes left in the game. They made their run and might make another run in the second half but this is our home and we need to get another win. So we're going to make our run at the end of the game and win."
