New Haven Head Coach, Ted Hotaling

Opening Statement
“First of all, I really want to thank UConn for this opportunity, this is amazing for our program, especially for our kids to play in this type of environment. To play a program this prestigious in our country it’s great for our university, it’s great for our athletic department, even more so for our kids. We really appreciate UConn having us here for this exhibition, it does a lot for our program that’s for sure. I thought we played really well, but I thought we got tired in the second half. Their freshman came off the bench and hit some threes, kind of put a dent in our game plan a little bit when they stretched the floor, but credit to them they did make some plays.”

On UConn’s Pressure
“I thought a few times their pressure got us out of our offense a little and we weren’t able to reverse the ball so much. Thank goodness we have Danny Upchurch that helps, where we could still get a good shot up.”

UConn Head Coach, Kevin Ollie

Opening Statement
“I am glad we got our first game behind us. The exhibition game allowed us to play all of our freshman in the first nine minutes. They (New Haven) came out fired up, Upchurch did a great job shooting the ball, 33 points and 5 assets, great job by him. I think Ted had them prepared to play and I like playing New Haven because they make you play defense the whole possession so I thought it was good for our guys. We are going to keeping developing the habit of success, we are going to have to play better defense going down the line, but it’s going to really give me the opportunity this week to really coach these guys up”

On Vance Jackson’s shooting ability
“I was very pleased, he kind of broke the game up, him and Terry, they went on that 13-0 run. That’s what we are going to need, he was the only one that made some threes tonight, I like when a young fella steps up and knocks down those threes, but he can do a lot more.”

Freshman Forward, Vance Jackson

On fulling his reputation as a shooter today
“Coach before the game told everybody once you get your opportunity, to come out on the court and show your talent and represent UConn, so I came ready to play”

On second half shooting
“We were kind of disappointed as a team that the other team was a little to close so we had the fire. We just wanted to come out and break the lead.”

Sophomore Forward, Terry Larrier

On half-court defense
“Coach put a huge emphasis on it. We have been watching a ton of film on it. Our goal is that it is something we have to take a lot of pride in on the defensive end and get stops.”

On how exhibition games help the team prepare for regular season
“I think it’s definitely big for the freshman, them getting out there and getting used to it. Just all of the guys sharpening their skills, it’s definitely a big a thing.”
