Starting senior forwards Gavin Edwards (Gilbert, Ariz.) and Stanley Robinson (Birmingham, Ala.) each scored nine points, and the two combined for 13 rebounds and five blocked shots. Freshman guard Darius Smith (Chicago, Ill.) scored nine points off of the bench and chipped in with six rebounds.
The contest was close at 18-17 before Dyson went on his scoring spree that put the Huskies safely ahead, 30-17. The Huskies cruised to a 41-21 halftime advantage behind 54 percent shooting and a 20-11 rebounding edge.
Connecticut outshot their opponents for the game, 57 percent to 29 percent and enjoyed a 32-2 advantage in fast break points. The Huskies ended up dominating the battle of the backboards, 48-22, and out-scored the River Hawks 50-20 in points in the paint.
The Huskies will open up the 2009-2010 regular season on Friday, Nov. 13 when they play host to William and Mary at Gampel Pavilion. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and the contest will be televised locally by WTNH TV-8 and SNY.
