Men's Basketball Takes On DePaul In BIG EAST Home Opener

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut men’s basketball team entertains DePaul in its BIG EAST Conference home opener Tuesday night at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs. The game will begin at 7 p.m., televised by SNY. The game will also been seen on MASN in Washington, D.C./Baltimore, Brighthouse Netowk in Tampa-St. Petersburg-Orlando

The Huskies (10-3, 0-1) are coming off a hard-fought 82-76 overtime loss at Marquette on Jan. 1 in their conference opener, breaking a four game winning streak. WCIU in Chicago, Fox Sports Ohio, Cox Cable in Rhode Island and New Orleans.

UConn Top DePaul In Opening Round, 81-67
Sophomore Jeremy Lamb (Norcross, Ga.) scored 25 points and freshman Ryan Boatright (Aurora, Ill.) added 19 to lead Connecticut to an 81-67 victory over DePaul on Tuesday in the opening round of the BIG EAST tournament.


UConn is led by junior Shabazz Napier, who tops the Huskies in scoring (17.5) and rebounding (4.2). Sophomore Ryan Boatright (15.8 ppg, 4.7 apg), freshman Omar Calhoun (10.8 ppg) and sophomore DeAndre Daniels (10.1 ppg) are also double-figure scorers. DePaul (10-5, 1-1) is coming off an 83-73 win at Providence on Saturday.

The Blue Demons are led by the 1-2 scoring punch of junior forward Cleveland Melvin (16.7 ppg) and junior guard Brandon Young (16.1 ppg). DePaul won nine of its first 12 games before narrowly losing its BIG EAST Conference opener to Seton Hall, 73-72. The Blue Demons bounced back, however, with the BIG EAST road victory at Providence.

Joining Melvin and Young in the probable starting lineup are junior forward Donnavan Kirk, sophomore forward Jamee Crockett, and sophomore guard Charles McKinney, but the Blue Demons have nine players averaging at least 15 minutes per game. Under third-year Coach Oliver Purnell, DePaul uses an up-tempo style on both ends of the floor that has the Demons averaging 75.1 points on offense and 9.7 steals on defense.



DePaul is 4-0 in true road games this season.
