STORRS, Conn. – For the first time since Dec. 12, the No. 23 UConn men’s basketball team will play a game at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion when it hosts American Athletic Conference foe Memphis at its on-campus facility on Saturday, Jan. 9. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN2 with radio coverage on the UConn/IMG Radio Network.
UConn (10-4) is coming off a 55-53 setback to Temple on Tuesday at the XL Center in Hartford. Shonn Miller (Euclid, Ohio) scored 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting, while Rodney Purvis (Raleigh, N.C.) added 11 points but the Huskies shot a season-low 31.6 percent from the field in their first conference loss of the season.
Connecticut is 3-3 all-time vs. Memphis in a series that dates back to the 2007-08 season. The Tigers swept the two-game season series in 2014-15, including a 54-53 win at Gampel in the last meeting on March 5. This season, Memphis sports a 10-4 overall mark, including a 1-0 record in American Athletic Conference play. Freshman Dedric Lawson (14.5) and grad Ricky Tarrant Jr. (14.0) are the top scorers for the Tigers, who have won three of their last four.
The Huskies own a perfect 4-0 mark at Gampel Pavilion and are 39-12 (.765) in the building over the last six seasons. Fourth-year head coach Kevin Ollie has led UConn to 21 victories in 28 games at the on-campus home facility.
The Huskies re-entered the Associated Press Top-25 poll on Monday, earning 107 points after a two-win week. UConn also checked in at No. 24 in the USA Today Coaches Poll with 81 total points.
