STORRS, Conn. – Freshman forward Vance Jackson, following consecutive double-digit scoring performances against Temple and Georgetown, has been named American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for Jan. 16 – his first collegiate award.
Jackson had a big week for the UConn men’s basketball team, earning two starts and averaging 11.5 points on 9-of-16 shooting in a 73-59 win over Temple on Wednesday and a 72-69 loss to Georgetown on Saturday.
Most recently, he scored 13 against the Hoyas, to go along with three assists, in a battle of old Big East foes at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.
In the last four games, Jackson has scored in double figures each time – averaging 12 points per game and shooting 60-percent (18-of-30) from the field.
Jackson has led the way for the Huskies (7-10, 2-3 American), who are 2-2 in their last four contests. He is shooting a team-best 64.3-percent (9-of-14) from three-point range in that stretch.
In conference play, the 6’8’’ forward is scoring 10.2 points per game on 54.5-percent shooting. One of his most efficient games this season was a 14-point performance (5-of-8 FG) against Memphis on Jan. 5.
Sophomore guard Jalen Adams was named to the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll as well, earning his second nod of the season. He posted a double-double of 11 points and a career-high 12 assists against Temple on Wednesday.
Adams kept UConn in Saturday’s game against Georgetown, netting 22 points and dishing out nine assists. He averaged 16.5 points, 10.5 assists and 5.5 rebounds this week.
