STORRS, Conn. – After falling to Temple, 63-58, on Thursday night, the UConn men’s basketball team will look to bounce back when it hosts American Athletic Conference foe Tulsa on Saturday, Feb. 13 at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. on ESPN2 with radio coverage on the UConn/IMG Radio Network.
UConn (17-7, 7-4 The American) had its three-game winning streak snapped by the Owls at the Liacouras Center, despite a 15-point effort from graduate forward Shonn Miller (Euclid, Ohio). The Huskies held a 12-point lead in the second half but were unable to register a field goal in the final 5:12 on their way to their fourth conference setback.
The Huskies are 3-1 all-time against the Golden Hurricane in a series that dates back to the 1978-79 season. Tulsa topped UConn, 60-51, on Jan. 14 despite a 20-point performance from graduate guard Sterling Gibbs (Scotch Plains, N.J.).
Tulsa (16-8, 8-4), which has won three of its last four, is coming off an 82-77 upset win at nationally-ranked SMU on Wednesday. The Golden Hurricane is led in scoring by senior guards James Woodard (16.4) and Shaquille Harrison (15.3). Harrsion is also the team leader in rebounding (5.4) and assists (4.1).
The Huskies own a 41-12 (.769) record at Gampel in the last six seasons, including a 23-7 (.767) record under fourth-year head coach Kevin Ollie.
During halftime, former Husky great Caron Butler will be inducted in the Huskies of Honor. Butler will become the 24th member of the Men’s Basketball Huskies of Honor, which recognizes the best of the best in UConn history, for their accomplishments at UConn and beyond.
