DALLAS – The UConn men’s basketball team will compete in its penultimate regular season game when it travels to the campus of SMU to take on the Mustangs on Thursday, March 3. Tip-off is set for 9 p.m. on ESPN2 with radio coverage on the UConn/IMG Radio Network.
UConn (20-9, 10-6 The American) dropped a 75-68 contest to Houston on Feb. 28 at Gampel Pavilion in its last contest. Sophomore standout Daniel Hamilton (Los Angeles, Calif.) tallied a team-best 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting, while Amida Brimah (Accra, Ghana) added 10 points but the Cougars shot 60.0 percent in the second half to hand the Huskies their sixth conference setback of the season.
The Huskies are 2-5 all-time against the Mustangs in a series that dates back to the 1965-66 season. Connecticut has won two of the last three match-ups, including a 68-62 win over the then-ranked No. 21 Mustangs on Feb. 18 at the XL Center in Hartford.
Thursday’s game at SMU will be the 10th road game of the 2015-16 season for UConn, which stands 6-3 on the road with wins at Texas, Tulane, Houston, UCF, Memphis, and USF and losses at Tulsa, Temple and Cincinnati.
SMU (24-4, 12-4 The American), which has won three straight and four of its last five, is coming off a 74-53 home triumph over Tulane. The Mustangs also have four players averaging double figures -- guard Nic Moore (16.1), forward Ben Moore (12.0), forward Jordan Tolbert (11.6) and guard Shake Milton (10.9).
