STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut men's basketball team is the No. 9 seed in the South Region of the 2016 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship and will play a first round game against Colorado in Des Moines, Iowa at the Wells Fargo Arena.
Colorado is the No. 8 seed in the region and has a 22-11 record and finished fifth in the Pac-12 Conference. The game will be played at 1:30 p.m. Eastern and televised on TNT and heard on the UConn IMG Sports Network.
The winner of the UConn matchup plays a second round against the winner of the first round game between top-seeded Kansas and Austin No. 16 seed Austin Peay on Saturday.
Kansas enter the tournament with a 30-4 record and won the Big 12 regular season and tournament championship. Austin Peay is the champions of the Ohio Valley Conference tournament and was the No. 8 seed in the conference tourney.
The Huskies have won four NCAA championships and are making their 33rd overall appearance in the tournament with a combined record of 58-29 in the event. UConn won the 2014 championship playing as a seven seed. The Huskies were last a nine seed in 2012 when they lost to Iowa State in its first tournament game in Louisville.
