ANAHEIM, Calif. - The UConn men's basketball players and coaches took part in the Elite 8 news conferences held today at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. No. 3 UConn will face No. 5 Arizona in the West Region Finals at 7:05 p.m. Eastern time on Saturday, March 26. The game will be televised on CBS.
Saturday's contest will be the fifth all-time meeting between the two programs and the first in the NCAA Tournament. UConn owns a 4-0 edge over the Wildcats with the last meeting resulting in a 79-79 victory at the Maui Invitational November 22, 2005.
UConn (29-9) continued its undefeated postseason with a 74-67 victory over No. 2 San Diego State on Thursday night. Junior All-American Kemba Walker and freshman Jeremy Lamb combined for 60 of UConn's 74 points on the night. Walker notched his 11th 30-point game of the season and tied the UConn NCAA Tournament record with 36 points. Lamb matched his season high with 24 points on 9-of-11 shooting.
Arizona (30-7) advanced to the Elite 8 after routing No. 1 Duke, 93-77. Sophomore star Derrick Williams led the way with a career-high 32 points, including 25 in the first half. Williams also recorded 13 rebounds on the night.
The Wildcats reached the West Region Finals with a 77-75 victory over No. 12 Memphis followed by a 70-69 result against No. 4 Texas.
UConn will be looking to advance to its fourth NCAA Final Four with a victory on Saturday night. The Wildcats will be attempting to reach the Final Four in Houston, Texas for the fifth time in the program's history.
