BOSTON --- UConn freshman guard Omar Calhoun (Brooklyn, N.Y.) has been named to the 2013 Kyle Macy Freshman All-America Team, announced Monday by Collegeinsider.com.
Calhoun was one of 21 Division I freshman across the country honored with a place on the All-America Team. One of them will the presented the 2013 Kyle Macy Award, presented annually to the top freshman, on April 5 at the Collegeinsider.com awards banquet in Atlanta, the site of NCAA Final Four.
Calhoun, a 6-5 guard, started every game for UConn this season until a sprained right wrist forced him to sit out the season finale. He finished fourth on the team in scoring (11.1 ppg) and third in rebounding (3.9 rpg) and was second on the team (with Ryan Boatright) in three-pointers made (43).
Calhoun, a product of the prestigious Christ The King basketball program in New York City, was the Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of New York in 2011-12.
