STORRS, Conn. – The future of the UConn men’s basketball program was on display on Tuesday afternoon, as the team’s five newest members took time to speak with local media members at the Werth Family UConn Basketball Champions Center on the Storrs campus.
Each of the recent additions spoke with a crowd of over 10 reporters in the gym of the Champions Center.
Guard Jalen Adams (Roxbury, Mass.) and forward Steven Enoch (Oakdale, Conn.) mark the two incoming freshmen next season for the Huskies, who announced their 2015-16 non-conference schedule earlier on Tuesday. Adams averaged 16 points and five rebounds as a senior for Brewster Academy last season, while Enoch averaged a double-double (15 points, 11 rebounds) last year for St. Thomas More in Oakdale, Conn.
“We’ve all connected with the team pretty well since we arrived here,” Adams said. “We know the guys and we felt welcome as soon as we got on camp
Three transfers, guard Sterling Gibbs and forwards Terry Larrier and Shonn Miller, also talked with reporters on Tuesday. Gibbs and Miller are eligible for competition this fall as graduate students, while Larrier will sit out next season per NCAA transfer rules and debut for the Huskies in the 2016 with three years of eligibility left.
Gibbs comes to UConn after two seasons at Seton Hall. He earned All-Big East Second Team honors us.” season after leading the Pirates with 16.3 points per game, and he was tabbed the league’s Player of the Week twice.
Miller averaged 12.5 points and 7.2 rebounds in three seasons at Cornell, and he was a unanimous selection to the 2015 All-Ivy First Team. Larrier saw time in 36 games as a freshman at VCU last season, sporting averages of 6.6 points and 3.0 rebounds.
“It’s been fun since I arrived here,” Miller said. “I fit in really well with everyone, and I think we can be pretty good this year.”
Following exhibition games against Tampa (Nov. 1) and New Haven (Nov. 7), UConn will open its 2015-16 campaign at home against Maine on Friday, Nov. 13.
