STORRS, Conn. (July 13, 2007) - The University of Connecticut men’s basketball team will play an 18-game BIG EAST Conference schedule during the 2007-08 season, highlighted by two contests each with Cincinnati, Notre Dame and Providence.
The 2007-08 season marks a return to the 18-game league schedule for the BIG EAST that was previously used from 1991-92 through 1998-99.
Each of the 16 BIG EAST teams will play three opponents twice during the season and the other 12 schools once. In 2008-09, each opponent that a school plays once this season will be played at the opposite site or be a repeat series – guaranteeing a game at the opposite site. A repeat series in 2007-08 may or may not be a repeat series next season.
In addition to the home games against Cincinnati, Notre Dame and Providence, UConn’s BIG EAST regular season home games will be against DePaul, Louisville, Marquette, Pittsburgh, St. John’s and West Virginia.
UConn’s road BIG EAST games will be at Georgetown, Rutgers, Seton Hall, South Florida, Syracuse and Villanova, as well as Cincinnati, Notre Dame and Providence.
Dates and times of all conference games, as well as the remainder of the UConn schedule, will be released at a later date as will sites (Hartford or Storrs) for home games.
As previously announced, UConn will open the season in the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer with an opening round four-team regional being held at Gampel Pavilion on Nov. 7-8. Four regional winners will advance to a final round at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Nov. 15-16.
The Huskies will also play Gonzaga on Dec. 1 at the Basketball Hall of Fame Challenge at TD Banknorth Garden in Boston.
