STORRS, Conn. - It was announced today by ESPN that the UConn men's basketball team will host College GameDay against Syracuse on Saturday, February 25 at 9 p.m. in Gampel Pavilion on the Storrs Campus. The two rivals are both ranked in the top-10 in the preseason poll by ESPN's Andy Katz. UConn comes in at No. 6 while Syracuse is ranked No. 4.
UConn, the defending National Champions, will host ESPN College GameDay for the first time since hosting the inaugural College GameDay on January 22, 2005 against Pittsburgh. Connecticut lost that game, 76-66.
The Huskies enter the season returning all but one starter from last season's memorable team. UConn sophomores Shabazz Napier (Randolph, Mass.) and Jeremy Lamb (Norcross, Ga.) have spent much of the summer training and competing with Team USA. Lamb was the leading scorer for the Americans at the FIBA U19 World Championships while Napier has been selected for Team USA's World University Games squad.
Connecticut defeated the Orange during its epic run through the BIG EAST Tournament last season. The Huskies outpaced Syracuse, 76-71, in the BIG EAST Semifinal. Syracuse ended last season with a 27-8 record, falling to Marquette in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
