STORRS, Conn. - The No. 18 University of Connecticut men's basketball team is set to host in-state rival Yale University in its 2013-14 home opener on Monday, November 11th at 3 p.m. at the XL Center in Harford, Conn.
The Huskies are 1-0 after defeating Maryland, 78-77, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Friday night. Senior guard Shabazz Napier scored a game-high 18 points and added seven rebounds and seven assists in 33 minutes to help propel the Huskies to their second consecutive season-opening win under head coach Kevin Ollie. Napier continues to make his mark in Husky history, moving up to No. 30 on UConn's all-time scoring list with 1,257 points.
Historically, the Huskies have been successful when playing at their off-campus home facility early in the year. UConn has not lost its first game at the XL Center in the past 25 seasons, dating back to a 72-59 loss to Virginia on 12/6/87. Overall, the Huskies boast a 233-85 record when playing in Hartford.
UConn and Yale have met on the hardwood 65 times, with the Huskies holding a 43-22 edge, including 12 straight wins. Yale enters the game with a 1-0 record after erasing a 16-point deficit against Central Connecticut to grab a 93-77 victory. Sophomore forward Justin Sears led Yale with 26 points and 13 rebounds.
