STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut men’s basketball team returns home to Gampel Pavilion for just the second time this season as it plays host to Stony Brook at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. The game will be televised by SNY and heard on the UConn IMG Sports Radio Network.
UConn is 4-1 on the season after advancing to the final of the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam before falling to New Mexico in the championship game. The Huskies are ranked No. 21 in the country.
The Sea Wolves were in action on Saturday and defeated Canisius on Saturday by a 82-75. Stony Brook is a member of the America East Conference and is 4-1 this season with wins over Marist, Moutn Ida and Rider and a loss to Sacred Heart.
Stony Brook is coached by Steve Pikiell, a 1990 UConn graduate. Pikiell was a point guard, two-year captain and four-year letterwinner for the Huskies from 1987-91. UConn won its first BIG EAST title and advanced to the Elite Eight and Sweet 16 during the two years that Pikiell captained the Huskies. He played in 106 career games and averaged 8.2 points a game as a freshman.
The UConn Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be hosting a food drive to help those in need who have been affected by Hurricane Sandy at the game.
Fans are encouraged to donate non-perishable canned food items and baby food. The items will be donated to the Foundation for Human Relief in New York that supports many of the hardest hit areas. Items will be collected through halftime at the North, South and East Entrances of Gampel Pavilion.
