STORRS, Conn. - For the second time in five weeks this season, UConn senior guard Shabazz Napier (Roxbury, Mass.) has been named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
Napier, who hit the game-winning jumper Monday against nationally-ranked Florida with time running out, led the Huskies to two victories this week, topping the Gators and Maine. The wins lifted the unbeaten Huskies to 9-0 on the season.
Napier averaged 16.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.5 steals for the two games, while shooting 55 percent (11 of 20) overall and 54.5 percent (6 of 11) from three-point range, as well as 5 of 5 from the foul line.
He had 26 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals in the 65-64 win over Florida and 7 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals in just 22 minutes in the 95-68 victory against Maine.
Napier was also named the league’s Player of the Week on Nov. 25 and has been named to the league’s weekly Honor Roll on Nov. 11 and Nov. 18.
For the season, Napier leads the Huskies in scoring (15.3), rebounding (7.0), assists (5.9), steals (2.1) and minutes played (32.9).
