STORRS, Conn. -- When the UConn men’s basketball team returns to the XL Center at noon on December 30th to take on Wichita State, fans will be treated to a special day of basketball. Not only will the Huskies be opening American Athletic Conference play, they will also be hosting the nationally-ranked Shockers in Connecticut for the first time ever.
To add to the excitement of this game, UConn will also honor one of the greatest fans in Connecticut with “Big Red Appreciation Day.” Tom Emery of Meriden, better known as Big Red, has been a regular at UConn men’s basketball games for years, leading the Husky faithful with his “U – C – O – N – N, UConn!, UConn!, UConn!” chant at important moments of the game.
A limited number of “Big Red” t-shirts will be distributed at the game on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Additionally, UConn plans to honor Big Red at halftime with a brief video and on-court presentation.
