STORRS, Conn. - Freshman center Andre Drummond was named BIG EAST Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday, December 19, after scoring a season-high 24 points on 11-of-12 shooting to go with eight rebounds and five blocks in a 77-40 victory over Holy Cross on Sunday afternoon.
Drummond previously won the award on November 28 for his outstanding performance in the Battle 4 Atlantis in which he notched 12 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks against Florida State.
The BIG EAST Preseason Rookie of the Year is averaging 9.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and league-leading 3.0 blocks per contest. A native of Middletown, Conn., Drummond has had three or more blocks in six of 10 games this season and is shooting 59-percent from the field. He currently ranks 14th in the nation in blocks per game.
Connecticut, 9-1, will play Fairfield at the XL Center on Thursday, December 22 at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on SNY and can be viewed at ESPN3.com.
