Men's Basketball Opens BIG EAST Play At Marquette

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut men's basketball team will meet Marquette in the BIG EAST Conference opener for both teams Tuesday night at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee at 8 p.m. Eastern, televised by ESPNU and heard on the UConn IMG Sports Radio Network. The game will be UConn's 34th BIG EAST opener in history.

Connecticut Falls to No. 12 Marquette, 79-64
Jeremy Lamb had 19 points to lead Connecticut (16-10, 6-8), which fell to No. 12 Marquette 79-64 Saturday.

The Huskies (10-2) are coming off a 61-53 victory over Washington, UConn's fourth straight win and sixth in seven games. The Huskies have four players averaging double figures, led by junior guard Shabazz Napier (16.5) and sophomore guard Ryan Boatright (15.8). Freshman guard Omar Calhoun (11.2) and sophomore forward DeAndre Daniels (10.0) are also in double figures.

Marquette (9-3) is coming off a 75-66 win over North Carolina Central, its fourth win in five games. The Golden Eagles are led by junior guard Vander Blue, averaging 13.4 points per game. The Golden Eagles, who went 27-8 last year and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16, are shooting a solid 47.7 percent from the floor and 32.1 percent from three-point range, while allowing opponents to shoot 40.4 percent.

UConn opens BIG EAST home play next Tuesday, January 8, when it takes on DePaul at Gampel Pavilion at 7:00 p.m. That game will be televised on SNY.
