UConn Head Coach Paul Pasqualoni
"We knew coming in that they were going to have a very formidable run game. Terrance West is an excellent back. I think their offensive line was experienced. It's disappointing. One of the strengths of our team over the past couple seasons has been our run defense, and West by himself had 156 yards, so that was very disappointing. We didn't play well there and I don't know of an area that we did play well in. The two turnovers hurt us. One was a tipped ball and the other was from a freshman punt returner. I put him in there and was the one that made him the punt returner, which is a tough job for a freshman. That's not on Brian Lemelle, that's on me. I know he's going to be a very good player. He can catch punts, but it was a tough fumble for him at that point in the game. We had a chance to get the ball back with about three minutes and maybe have a chance to get the ball down the field and run a two point play to tie the game. It was just very disappointing for the amount of work and effort these kids have put in. We'll evaluate the film and make some decisions about what we're doing. We'll move on and start again on Saturday.
On the mood of the team:
"I think the kids are pretty resilient. I think they know it is one game and we didn't play well as a team in any area. I think their attitude is good. I think there is some leadership in the locker room and from that regard I think we'll be fine. We'll come back with the focus and will to get better."
Safety Obi Melifonwu
On the result of the game
"It's devastating but we have to come back next week and prepare for the game."
On the team's effort tonight
"Everyone gave a great effort on both offense and defense. Everyone battled and no one had their heads down.
On what Coach Pasqualoni said after the game
"He said to keep our heads up and focus on our mistakes and learn from them."
On his interception in the first quarter
"I was reading the qb and I broke on the ball and he overthrew it and scooped it up."
Linebacker Yarwin Smallwood
On the mindset after the game
" It's tough we've been working hard all offseason. It hurts but we just have to make sure we're working towards the next game."
On moving forward
"We have to pick our heads up and get ready to work and go into the film room and fix our mistakes."
Quarterback Chandler Whitmer
On the game tonight
"Obviously it's frustrating. I can't point the fingers we just didn't get it done as a team."
On preparing for Towson
"We respected them. We knew they were a great opponent we just didn't come out clicking like we needed to."
On Towson's pass rush
"They were getting good pass rush. Maybe I could have got the ball out quicker."
On not finishing drives
"To take a nice drive down to the one and then not be able to finish it's frustrating. That's something we harped on last year. We have to finish drives and we didn't get it done and it's frustrating."
Wide receiver Geremy Davis
On his game tonight
"We played well but not good enough because we still lost. I don't care about personal stats the most important stat obviously is to win."
