STORRS, CONN. — University of Connecticut head coach Randy Edsall added three individuals to his staff Monday, naming J.B. Grimes Offensive Line Coach, Aaron Smith to the role of Wide Receiver Coach and Recruiting Coordinator and Eric Klein to the position of Director of Football Strength and Conditioning.
J.B. (John Bryan) Grimes brings 34 years of coaching experience to the Husky program, spanning 12 different schools, 19 bowl game appearances and guiding over 50 of his charges on the offensive line to a spot in the National Football League. He most recently coached the 2016 season at Cincinnati and the 2013-15 seasons at Auburn. Grimes also made stops at Arkansas State, Kansas, Mississippi State, East Carolina, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, Arkansas, Northeast Louisiana, Missouri and Delta State in his coaching career.
Grimes (born 7/5/55) has a one-year contract and will be paid a base salary of $250,000.
Aaron Smith, a 2006 UConn graduate, returns to his alma mater after serving as the Wide Receivers coach and Recruiting Coordinator from 2013-16 at the University of Albany. He has also coached at Boston College (2012), Columbia (2007-11) and Coast Guard (2006). He was a member of the UConn 2004 Motor City Bowl squad.
Smith (born 10/29/83) signed a one-year deal for a base salary of $145,000.
Eric Klein brings 15 years of experience to the Husky football program. He most recently served as the Director of Football Strength and Conditioning at the University of Minnesota and also worked in the same role at South Illinois and Northern Illinois.
Klein (born 10/25/70) has a two-year contract and will be paid a base salary of $220,000.
