Former University of Connecticut cornerback Byron Jones (New Britain, Conn.) will be one of just 28 prospects to attend the 2015 NFL Draft, which takes place April 30-May 2 in Chicago at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University.
Jones set an NFL Combine record in the broad jump with a long leap of 12 feet, three inches in February. Not only was that a combine record, it also topped the official world record in that track event. The world record is held by Norwegian Arne Tvervaag, who jumped 3.71 meters (12 feet, two inches) on November 11, 1968.
Jones also impressed the NFL personnel at the Combine with a vertical jump of 44.5 inches.
Jones made 37 starts in 43 career games at UConn and started the first seven games of his senior season before having season-ending surgery. He had 223 career tackles with eight career interceptions.
UConn has had a total of 38 players drafted in school history, including 23 since the 2005 NFL Draft. The Huskies have had a player taken in every NFL Draft since 2005. A record-high five Huskies were taken in the 2013 NFL Draft while four were selected in 2009.
