    The first-ever UConn Fairfield County Day took place on June 10, 2009, at the UConn Stamford campus. Over 180 people attended the reception and program, which included the induction of the four newest members of the UConn wing of the Fairfield County Sports Hall of Fame. The event, which brought together many segments of the UConn community, raised over $10,000 for student scholarships at the Stamford campus and for the UConn Fairfield County alumni chapter scholarship program. It also benefited the Fairfield County Sports Commission.

    UConn head football coach Randy Edsall was the featured speaker and more than 20 former UConn athletes and coaches attended. The newest UC Hall of Famers recognized were Rashamel Jones (Stamford) of men's basketball, Rita Williams (Norwalk) of women's basketball, Tom Penders (Stratford) of men's basketball and baseball and Joe Markus (Trumbull) of football.

    Other former and current athletes and coaches that attended the event were: from football-Nick Devito, Nick Giaquinto (2008 Fairfield County UConn Hall of Famer), C.J. Hessel, current UConn assistant coach Lyndon Johnson, Brian McGillicuddy, Ken Miller, Matt Nuzie, Rick Robustelli, and Brian Usher (2007 Fairfield County UConn Hall of Famer); from men's Basketball: current Husky Gavin Edwards, Kwasi Gymbibi, E.J. Harrison, Oliver Macklin; from baseball: current head caoch Jim Penders and his father Jim Penders, Sr.; from women's baskteball, Maria Conlon; from women's soccer: Tara Buckley O'Sullivan (2007 Fairfield County UConn Hall of Famer).
