The University of Connecticut Division of Athletics was well represented on Wednesday on Pro-Am Day at the Travelers Championship. As the first PGA TOUR event of the season in the Northeast, the Travelers Championship is one of the region's premier sporting events. The tournament proudly supports the PGA TOUR's Tradition of Giving Back by donating 100 percent of net proceeds to charities.
UConn women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma, football coach Bob Diaco and associate head women’s basketball coach Chris Dailey all kicked the day off as they were “Team UConn” at the FML CPAS Celebrity Mini Golf Tournament.
Actress and Hole in the Wall Gang Camp Celebrity Ambassador Bridget Moynahan was the host of the event. The camp, located near the UConn campus in Ashford, a charity beneficiary of the Travelers Championship that's dedicated to providing "a different kind of healing" to seriously ill children and their families.
Auriemma played in the Pro-Am with defending champion Kevin Streelman, comedian George Lopez and singing start Javier Colon. Streelman is the defending champion of the tournament.
UConn Director of Athletics Warde Manuel joined men’s ice hockey coach Mike Cavanaugh and Daily in the Pro-Am with PGA Tour professional Carl Pettersson. Working the caddy bag for Manuel was UConn head golf coach Dave Pezzino.
Former UConn men’s basketball coach Jim Calhoun played in the Pro-Am with Harris English while former Husky men’s basketball star Ray Allen played with PGA Tour pro Ken Duke and former Boston Red Sox star knuckleballer Tim Wakefield.
