STORRS, Conn. - The UConn football team is having two practices on Friday as preseason camp continues. The summer heat is on in Storrs, but due to the fantastic work of the UConn sports performance and sports medicine staff, the players are in tip-top shape and well-hydrated to have productive practices.
The UConn football team public practice, which was scheduled for this Saturday at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentscher Field, has been cancelled due to the possibility of thunderstorms. For the safety of our fans and team, this decision was made in advance. We look forward to seeing everyone at the opener vs. Maine!
UConn opens the season in less than three weeks when it takes on Maine on Thursday, Sept. 1, at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field.
"I don't know what's happening on the outside," said UConn coach Bob Diaco. "I don't know anything other than these guys' lives right now. I know it's a little narrow-focused, but that's what camp is. If you can't get excited about people wanting you to succeed then you are in the wrong business and wrong game. It's the best. I love that. UConn Nation is excited about what we're going to become and having expectation for greatness. It's fantastic."
UConn Director of Athletics David Benedict shared some changes in game day at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field for this season on WTIC NewsTalk 1080 this morning with Bob Joyce, who was hosting for the vacationing and UConn football enthusiast Ray Dunaway.
Among the changes Benedict announced were:
• New and reduced concession prices for bottled water ($3 per bottle) and hot dogs ($3 each)
• For Blue Lot ticket holders, the ability to park anywhere in the Blue Lot during the first hour of tailgating (five hours before the game).
• Free bus transportation to game for UConn student - in the past there had been a charge • Free tickets to the Maine game for all incoming freshmen.
• A new student tailgate lot for those students that drive.
Look for more details on these and other changes early next week.
