STORRS, Conn. - Training camp for the UConn football team continued on Saturday in Storrs with one practice. The practice was originally scheduled to be open to the public at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford. That event was cancelled due to the potential of thunderstorms and we look forward to see all our great fans for the home opener vs. Maine on Thursday, September 1.
The team practiced in the heat on Saturday and got a good deal of work in, including some scrimmage situations with game referees.
"I am so excited about this football team and love it and it feel it reciprocated back and permeating through each staff, each player," said UConn head coach Bob Diaco.
Diaco was quick to praise several elements of the UConn program that allowed the team to practice through the heat that is going through the Northeast this weekend.
"We have one of the best, if not very best, sports performance teams in the country," said UConn coach Bob Diaco. "We can come out here and get work done in this adversity and have great, great care for the players. So they can get pushed through adversity and at the same time, maintain it in a very healthy, safe environment.
"It's not just the character on a day like this. It's our holistic approach to training. There is a maturity that is necessary. You would have had to be right for a few days prior to this day to function out here today under these circumstances."
