PROVIDENCE, R.I. - University of Connecticut redshirt sophomore Sio Moore (Apex, N.C.) was named the BIG EAST Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Moore, making his first career start, had a game- and career-high 16 tackles with an interception to lead Connecticut to a 45-21 win against Buffalo.
In addition, redshirt junior tailback Robbie Frey (Lehighton, Pa.) was named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll. Frey rushed for a career-high 112 yards vs. the Bulls.
Moore led a Connecticut defense that limited Buffalo to seven second-half points, allowing the Huskies to break open a game that was tied 14-14 at halftime.
Moore played his freshman year of high school at West Haven High School in Connecticut before moving to North Carolina.
Senior running back Delone Carter of Syracuse was the Offensive Player of the Week while redshirt freshman punt returner Terrence Mitchell of USF was the Special Teams Player of the Week.
