PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
University of Connecticut sophomore cornerback Jamar Summers (Orange, N.J.) was named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for his performance in UConn’s 7-3 win at Tulane last Saturday.
Summers had a 67-yard interception return for a touchdown which stood up as the only touchdown of the game. He also had five tackles and a pass breakup.
Summers, who registered his American Athletic Conference-leading sixth interception of the season, keyed a UConn defense which limited the Green Wave to 140 yards of offense and nine first downs while keeping Tulane out of the end zone. Summers and the UConn defense allowed Tulane to cross midfield on only one of the Green Wave’s 15 drives.
Navy fullback Chris Swain was named the Offensive Player of the Week while the Mids’ punter Alex Barta was named the Special Teams Player of the Week.
