STORRS, Conn. - WTIC NewsTalk 1080 will provide extensive coverage of the University of Connecticut football team's trip to Birmingham, Ala., for the 2010 Papajohns.com Bowl. The game will be played on Saturday, January 2, 2010, at Legion Field with a 2:00 p.m. Eastern kickoff.
WTIC NewsTalk1080 is the flagship station of the WTIC-UConn Radio Network.
The coverage from Birmingham will begin on Friday, January 1 with "The Ray Dunaway Show" from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The popular WTIC morning show host will have a special edition of his show from the lobby of The Wynfrey Hotel - the UConn team hotel for the bowl game.
On Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Joe D'Ambrosio and Kevin Nathan will co-host a two-hour edition of "SportsTalk" from The Wynfrey featuring UConn coaches and players and other guests in anticipation of the game.
On game day, Saturday, January 2, WTIC will dedicate upwards of 14 hours of game coverage early. "Ray At The Rent: The Road Show" will air from 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. from the Wynfrey. This will be a special version of the show that Dunaway normally does on Saturday mornings before home games at Rentschler Field.
Dunaway's show will be followed by a rebroadcast of Friday night's version of "SportsTalk" from 10 a.m. to noon.
From noon until 12:30 p.m., D'Ambrosio looks back at the 2009 UConn football season with highlights and interviews from WTIC's game coverage.
The action shifts to Legion Field at 12:30 p.m. for the "UConn Football Magazine" as D'Ambrosio fills in for Bob Joyce as the host of the 90 minute pregame show featuring interviews with UConn players, head coach Randy Edsall, a look at South Carolina and more.
Kickoff will be at 2:00 p.m. on the WTIC-UConn Radio Network with D'Ambrosio on play-by-play, Nathan on color and former Huskies captain Sean Mulcahy on the sidelines.
There will be complete postgame coverage with highlights, interviews from the locker room, final statistics and the out of town scoreboard. Then there will be a special bowl version of "Husky Talk" to give listeners a chance to call in and talk about the game and the 2009 season.
The UConn men's and women's basketball games that day will air on WTIC-FM 96.5. For the UConn men's game vs. Notre Dame that day at noon, Wayne Norman will provide play-by-play with Phil Chardis of the Manchester Journal-Inquirer on color. The usual team of Joyce on play-by-play and Kara Wolters on color will work the UConn at Seton Hall women's game at 2:00 p.m.
