HOLLYWOOD, S.C. (March 5, 2013) --- Freshmen Zach Zaback (Farmington, Conn.) and John Flaherty (Glastonbury, Conn.) each shot a 9-over par 225 over three rounds to lead the University of Connecticut golf team at the Charleston Shootout, which concluded Tuesday at the Links at Stono Ferry.
Zaback (73-78-74-225) and Flaherty (75-74-76-225) were among a six-way tie for 26th place in the 84-player field, as UConn shot an aggregate 301-315-314-930 and finished 10th in the 12-team field.
The rest of the UConn lineup included sophomore Chris Wiatr (Woodbury, Conn.), who shot 77-78-77-232 to finish in a tie for 48th, freshman Stephen Pastore (Greenwich, Conn.), who shot 76-858-88-249 to finish in 74th place, and junior Mike Masso (Suffield, Conn.), who shot 86-88-87-261 to finish in 81st place.
USC Upstate won the tournament with an aggregate 17-over 291-288-302-881, five strokes ahead of Sam Houston State. The individual medalists were John Duke Hudson of host school College of Charleston, Coastal Carolina’s Easton Renwick, and Hayden Garrett of Clemson, who each carded an even-par 216.
The Huskies will continue the spring portion of their schedule on March 16-17, when they travel to Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., to compete in the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular at the Mission Inn Resort.
