TAMPA, Fla. (March 7, 2009) - The University of Connecticut golf team finished the second round of the Ron Smith/USF Invitational on Saturday in 22nd place. Led by a pair of 77 rounds from Kyle O'Connor (South Windsor, Conn.) and Matt Dubrowski (Bergenfield, N.J.), the Huskies are seven shots ahead of Cincinnati.
O'Connor and Dubrowski finished five-over-par on the second day and are +10 after two rounds. They are tied with teammate Jeb Buchanan (Loudonville, N.Y.) who finished the first two rounds with a total score of 154.
Brian Hwang (Hauppauge, N.Y.) continues to lead the Huskies overall despite a difficult second day on the course. Hwang, who finished the first round at par, shot seven-over on the second day. He is tied for 83rd overall with a 151.
Marquette is six-under after two rounds to lead the field with a team score of 570. Matt Stauch, from Florida Southern College is the individual leader, shooting 10-under par at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club.
The final round of the invitational begins at 8 a.m. on Sunday morning.
