UConn Leads New England Golf Championship After Day One

Providence, R.I. - Junior Matt Dubrowski shot a three-under par 69 to hold the individual lead and help the University of Connecticut golf team to the team lead after day one Saturday of the 2010 New England Division I Golf Championships at Triggs Memorial Golf Course.

The Huskies stand at a team score of 293 through one day of the two-day tournament, holding a three-stroke advantage over Sacred Heart University and four shots over the University of Rhode Island, while the University of Hartford and Central Connecticut State University round out the top five teams in the team standings.

Dubrowski led four Huskies in the top ten in the individual standings and was one of only four players in the field to break par on the day. He holds a one-shot edge over Leo Garcia of Sacred Heart and a two-shot advantage over Nick MacDonald of Hartford and Patrick Pelletier of URI.

Sophomore Jeb Buchanan shot a 74 for UConn and stands in a tie for seventh, while sophomore Adam Vaccari and freshman Brian Hughes each fired a 75 and stand tied for ninth.

The tournament concludes Sunday with 18 holes of action.
